Privacy Policy

How catchup.at handles shared location data and keeps the service secure.

February 25, 2026

Scope

This policy describes how data is handled when users create, view, and edit location shares.

It applies to product pages, API requests, and service protection mechanisms.

Data categories

Shared content submitted by creators, such as notes, guidance, and map coordinates.

Basic technical information needed to keep the service running smoothly.

Your analytics preference and anonymized page-view statistics when analytics is enabled.

System logs used to maintain service reliability and security.

How data is used

To deliver core features: create links, render shared pages, and process edit or delete requests.

To protect service quality through usage safeguards and issue resolution.

To understand aggregate product usage and improve UX when analytics is enabled.

To handle link expiration and routine maintenance.

Analytics and consent behavior

We currently use Google Analytics (GA4) for basic traffic and page-view measurement.

In EU/EEA regions, analytics remains off until consent is provided through the consent banner.

Outside EU/EEA regions, analytics may be enabled by default based on regional signals; if regional detection fails, we default to EU behavior.

Consent status is stored in your browser to persist your choice across visits.

Analytics is configured with IP anonymization for additional privacy protection.

You can reset this preference by clearing catchup.at site storage in your browser.

Data sharing and access

Public share content is available to anyone with the view link.

Edit and delete actions require the owning Google account, or a valid same-device claim for an anonymous page.

Anonymized analytics data may be processed by our analytics provider to help understand usage trends.

Internal access is limited to operational and security needs.

Retention and deletion

Shared content can expire automatically based on configured duration (1 day, 7 days, or 30 days).

Expired and deleted content is periodically cleaned from storage within 30 days after expiration or deletion.

Signed-in owners can delete shares through the edit page; deleted content is removed from public view immediately.

System logs are retained for a limited period to support service reliability.

Security controls

The service uses multiple security layers to protect against unauthorized access and misuse.

Editing and deletion require authenticated account ownership, or a valid same-device claim for an anonymous page.

We continually improve our security practices to protect the service and your data.

Your rights

You can delete any account-owned share from the edit page at any time. Anonymous pages can only be claimed and managed from the device that created them.

You can reset your analytics preference by clearing catchup.at site storage in your browser.
